2021: JUNE FAMILY

I WANT MY DADDY!

A toddler falls down and bruises their knee. At that moment, the tears begin to flow while the child cries out…. “I want my Daddy!”. A mother, who is alarmed by the fall, comes to the child’s rescue, but the cry for daddy drowns out her comforting words. A young boy, who is playing baseball, looks into the stands, saying to himself… “I want my daddy to see me hit a home run!” A high school graduate, who is walking the stage to receive their diploma, listens for the celebratory screams from their daddy.

What do the toddler, young boy, and high school graduate all have in common? All three, within their various circumstances, needed the presence of their daddy. They needed reassurance and affirmation from their father that everything would be alright. Fathers are different from mothers. While mothers are nurturers by nature, fathers have a commanding presence in the lives of children, young and old. Fathers serve as protectors and providers in the homes of so many. Unfortunately, as a nation, we have a problem. There are so many homes where the daddy is not there physically. In some cases, the daddy maybe there physically, but not engaged in family affairs. According to statistics, 17.9 million children live in fatherless homes. Due to the absence of fathers in the homes, teenage pregnancy is on the rise, suicide rates are climbing, high school dropouts are increasing, etc….the list could go on and on. As we see, the need for a father in the home is great. Who will protect and provide for the children if the father is absent? Who will be there when they fall down or when they graduate? What can they do if their fathers are not present?

There is hope….Our Heavenly Father sees, knows, and cares about every fatherless child. Psalm 68:5 (NKJV) states… God is “a father of the fatherless, a defender of widows, Is God in His holy habitation.” Also, Psalm 27:10 (NLT) says…. “Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will hold me close.” The Bible offers a solution to our fatherless generation. Our Heavenly Father promised he would hold us close and be our father when we long to have one. Our Heavenly Father promised he would defend us in our time of need. Our Heavenly Father promised he would provide for our every need. We are not alone. We just need to put our trust in Him.

So whenever life gets crazy and you yell out… “I want my daddy!”, just look up because your Heavenly Father is right there for you.
