When and What are We Sowing?
Believe it or not, we are always sowing! Some of our seeds (thoughts, words, actions, deeds, misdeeds) are known & intentional, and some are unknown & unintentional. Regardless, they have been sown. That which has been put out into the atmosphere through our mouths and actions will bring forth either a joyous harvest, or, if the seeds are not renounced, retracted, and covered by the Blood of JESUS to not be performed, they have the potential to wreak havoc in our lives and the lives of others. The father/grandfather of dear friends of ours used to always say “Sow a good seed everybody.” He knew the importance and consequences of sowing and reaping. That word is definitely backed up by scripture. “Don’t be deceived: God is not mocked. For whatever a person sows he will also reap, because the one who sows to his flesh will reap destruction from the flesh, but the one who sows to the Spirit will reap eternal life from the Spirit. Let us not get tired of doing good, for we will reap at the proper time if we don’t give up.” (Gal 6:7-9 – CSB) There is a set time for the harvest, and GOD knows when that is.
The universal law of sowing and reaping is an eternal one. The Eternal GOD Who created the universe and its immutable laws set it up that way. Yes, there is time between sowing and reaping, and as children of the Most High GOD, we often receive HIS mercy in pardon, or grace in order handle the sometimes unwelcome harvest of unwanted or unexpected seeds sown. How great and merciful is our GOD! “He has not dealt with us according to our sins [as we deserve], Nor rewarded us [with punishment] according to our wickedness. (Psa 103:10 – AMP)
However, it’s not enough to just sow good seeds. What type of soil have we planted our seeds in? Have we, or are we taking the time to properly prepare the ground, and once prepared, are we allowing God to show us how to fertilize and cultivate that seed? Even when we robustly plant good seed, some of the harvest may not be able to come forth as we might like because of blight, or damage to crops during the maturation process. Different types of seeds need different fertilization processes in order to develop and grow strong, so that they might bring forth fruit that remains. However, a continuously sown seed will produce a continued potential harvest. Are we planting according to GOD’s plan, and allowing God to watch over HIS Word (His seed) to perform it? He is the Lord of the harvest. The law of sowing and reaping will bring forth a harvest. The more seed sown, the greater the harvest. What are we sowing in the secret of our hearts? Are we watering in secret with prayers of thanksgiving what we have sown in public, or are we sowing a mixed seed that will negate the harvest we actually want? Are we consistent in what we are sowing? Or are we haphazard, one day planting in faith, the next day plucking up with our words of unbelief? Perhaps we are skipping sowing or watering periods because we have become discouraged, not having yet seen the harvest we expect. That can cause our harvest to be delayed. We must continually seek GOD for how He desires to have the harvest come forth. If we have planted seeds in error, we can repent and ask GOD to pluck up that which He did not desire to have planted. “But he answered and said, Every plant which my heavenly Father hath not planted shall be rooted up.” (Matt 15:13). This is another aspect of the grace referred to earlier.
Once again, whether we realize it or not, we are always sowing. Our thoughts and actions as well as our words are seeds. Are they in agreement? Check the harvest. It will tell.
If we don’t like the harvest we are seeing come forth, let’s ask GOD, the Sovereign Sower for wisdom in what and how to sow. In faith, follow the instructions of Holy Spirit, and be open to how and what HE desires to have us sow, fertilize, weed, water and prune. HE is the ultimate sower and HIS harvest consists of amazingly sweet fruit.
“So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (Gal 6:9 – NLT)
Let’s be consistent in our sowing. Sow a good seed everybody, and continue to do so.
