Circling the Drain

Last month, I noticed this Facebook comment, “circling the drain”, which was made by a woman who was dealing with the pain of separation from her husband. That’s such a deep thought when you think about the endless destination of a drain. An endless pit of no return. What a terrible place to be…circling an unknown mechanism, not knowing for sure whether you could be rescued from the undesired fate that lies at the destination; if there is one.

While spinning around looking towards the bottom can be detrimental to your mind, there is help. We serve a God that is able to rescue you when you fall into that bottomless drain called despair, depression and hopelessness. This scripture comes to mind, “Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God” (Ps 42:11 KJV). There is only one person that wants you to be in that state of mind, Satan. Yes, as a human being, we will suffer from despair, disappointments and sometimes even depression. Nevertheless, it is not God’s will that we remain in a downward mental place. The important thing to remember is that Jesus is making intercession for you while you are unable to articulate your desires and pleas for relief.

If you find yourself circling an endless mental drain, I pray that God will deliver and change your circumstances resulting in a merry heart. Also, ask God to direct you to a certified counselor who can assist you.

Optimistically, these scriptures from the King James Version are shared to give you hope and comfort.

“A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.” Pro 17:22

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” 3 Jn 1:2

“Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.” Pro 12:25
